Families with school-aged children will have all of their educational needs served by the Bellevue Public Schools district, the fourth largest school district within the state. Bellevue Public Schools is comprised of 14 elementary schools, three middle schools, and two high schools. Students also have the option of attending one of the many parochial and private schools located throughout Bellevue. Students wishing to obtain a degree in higher education can do so at a number of area colleges, including Bellevue University, Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University (located just outside Offutt Air Force Base), Metropolitan Community College, Creighton University, Clarkson College, and Grace University.

As a city that once started out as a fur trading post in the early part of the 19th century, Bellevue has seen a lot of growth since then. Theatre patrons will also want to check out the Blue Barn Theatre at the ninety-seat theatre in Omaha's Old Market. The Blue Barn Theatre is known as "Omaha's Premier Professional Theatre" and showcases musical productions, dramas, off-Broadway plays, and other award-winning productions.

If you're thinking about taking your family or classroom out to a museum, Bellevue has plenty to choose from. As one of the more popular museums for kids of all ages, the Strategic Air & Space Museum is regarded as one of the premier learning facilities of its kind in the nation. Merging history and technology in a friendly learning environment, visitors will get a chance to walk through the museum?s 300,000 square-foot facility and learn all about the museum?s collection of aircraft, missiles, and other aerospace exhibits. Another terrific museum is The Omaha Children?s Museum. Featuring hands-on exhibits, a science and technology center, and classrooms that let kids discover the wonders of magnets, light, sound, and color, this one of a kind museum will prove to be a great learning experience for everyone. A couple other museums of interest include the Durham Western Heritage Museum, Joslyn Art Museum, and the Sarpy County Historical Museum.

Thinking of heading out to an aquarium to check out the aquatic wildlife? Then head on over to the Schramm Park & Ak-Sar-Ben Aquarium. This aquarium is set on 330 acres and features over 50 species of native Nebraska fish. In addition to the educational exhibits of the area?s native marine life, visitors can also take a stroll on over to the nature trails around the pond and head on toward the state?s original fish hatchery.

What's a day at the aquarium without a visit to the Henry Doorly Zoo? Recognized as the state's top attraction, the Henry Doorly Zoo has received national praise from both National Geographic and Time magazine. Featuring an IMAX 3-D theatre, a jungle exhibit, aquarium, big cat complex, and garden, the Henry Doorly Zoo is a wonderful attraction that shouldn't be missed by anyone!

And don't forget to end your day on the right note by heading down to The Old Fashioned Soda Fountain?Sarpy County's only "Soda Fountain" located at the historic Springfield Drug on 2nd and Main Street.

Parks & Recreation

The outdoors plays a vital role to the residents of Bellevue, so it shouldn't be a surprise to know that there are seven golf courses located in the immediate area: Bay Hills Golf Course, Eagle Hills Golf Course, Fontenelle Hills Golf, Platteview Country Club, Tregaron Golf Course, Warrior Nine Golf Course, and Willow Lake Golf Course. In addition to the courses, residents and visitors can check out the Fontenelle Forest, known to many as Nebraska's only forest. Situated on over 1,300 acres in the northern portion of Bellevue, Fontenelle Forest has 17 scenic trails that will take you across marshes and prairies, overlooking the Missouri River Valley and other vistas. Visitors to the Fontenelle Forest will also have many opportunities to observe the wildlife that call the forest home, such as geese, groundhogs, Red-winged Blackbirds, Great Horned Owls, foxes, raccoons, and other small critters.

If boating and fishing is more of your idea of a great way to spend the day outdoors, Haworth Park located on the banks of the Missouri River features the Bellevue Marina, a 200-slip marina with floating docks in a variety of lengths. A private gated entrance and private parking add to the exclusivity of the area and many of the docks are fully equipped with lighting and electrical outlets. While you?re at Haworth Park, start the day off right and take a walk around the Bellevue Loops of Keystone Trail. The Loop?which features 10 miles of open trails?will lead you south on the Missouri River levee to Papio Creek.
